Police Launch New National Non-Emergency Number 101

The introduction of the 101 non-emergency number will give the public a new way to contact the police, to report a crime that does not need an emergency response, to get advice, or to speak to a local officer.

The new number will help make police more accessible to communities and reduce pressure on the 999 system, as well as helping police to cut crime by making it easier for the public to pass on information.

Deputy Chief Constable Rose Fitzpatrick and Cabinet Secretary for Justice Kenny MacAskill launched the service today and toured one of the facilities where 101 calls are now being received. The Cabinet Secretary also spoke to staff on duty and listened in to some of the calls being received.
